Middletown, NJ. – The Northeast Generals NAHL squad hits the road this weekend for a two game set at the Middletown Sports Arena in Middletown, NJ against the New Jersey Titans. Both teams find themselves tied for second place in the East Division with 31 pints. Northeast holds a 14-9-3 record and has a game in hand on New Jersey with a 15-11-1 record.
Last time out for the Generals was a weekend sweep over the first place team in the league, the Maryland Black Bears. On Friday night, in his first game in Attleboro Ryan Remick found the back of the net while Frank D’Ancona scored his first as a General as well. Toby Hopp got the start and made 38 saves against 40 shots for the Black Bears in the 4-2 win.
Saturday night brought a comeback win for the Gens as Maryland jumped out to a 2-0 lead at the first intermission. Sixten Jennersjö and Jake LaRusso both found the back of the net in the second period to tie the game, then both teams struck in the third period to force overtime. Northeast found themselves on the powerplay in the extra frame and capitalized on the opportunity with a one-time blast from captain Dave Andreychuk. Cullen DeYoung picked up his seventh win of the season stopping 39 of 42 shots faced.
Four different Generals picked up two or more points on the weekend. Ryan Schelling had two assists on Friday while Jennersjö had a goal and an assist in both games. Remick had a goal on Friday and 3 assists on Saturday, and LaRusso the East Division Player of the Week picked up 5 points on 3 goals and 2 assists.
For the Titans they split a pair of overtime thrillers last weekend at home against the Maine Nordiques, then played a mid-week matchup on the road against the Danbury Hattricks. New Jersey took the lead less than two minutes into the contest and never looked back picking up their 5th win over the Tricks.
In the season series between the Generals and Titans, New Jersey holds the advantage 4-2. Both teams have found success in the others home rinks with the away team winning all 6 of the matchups. Former Titan Jake LaRusso has been lights out against his former team with 6 points in 6 games played.
