The Northeast Generals are excited to announce the 2020-2021 winners of the Brady Gaudette Award for Grit and Toughness. The Award is presented to the player that was able to play with constant energy, toughness and reliability. Gaudette who just finished his Sophomore season at the University of Maine, was a 2 year General that embodied the mindset of doing whatever it took to win games. In 2 years Gaudette played in 114 games in which he recorded 24 goals, 33 assists for 57 points. But the undersized Forward also amassed 157 penalty minutes in those games. He played a fearless style, willing to do everything to ensure pucks got out of the zone and didn’t get on net. He consistently finished every check against much larger players and sacrificed his body by blocking shot after shot.
The NA3HL Brady Gaudette Award Winner: Tyler Kaminski
Tyler came to the Generals in a late season trade in 2019-2020. In 11 games Kaminski recorded 5 goals and 8 assists for 13 points in helping the record setting Generals finish an amazing 40-6 before their run to the Fraser Cup was cut short due to the Covid pandemic. In the 2020-21 season Kaminski showed the same grit and toughness he displayed the previous season but also showed up well on the stat sheet. In 39 games played Kaminski had 11 goals and 26 assists for 37 points. He also amassed a league high 208 penalty minutes. He helped the Generals reach their first Fraser Cup in franchise history.
“Tyler is such a great kid. He is bordering on reckless with his body at times, blocking everything in sight, finishing every hit and just playing the right way. He has a knack for scoring and has shown an incredible willingness to go to the dirty areas of the ice. His penalty minutes are more a sign of him standing up for his teammates rather than selfish play. He always put the team first both on and off the ice. He was a model teammate and Assistant Captain. We are very proud of Tyler and his commitment to being a leader both on and off the ice.” Said Bryan Erikson.
The NAHL Brady Guadette Award Winner: Ricky Boysen
Ricky just completed his 2nd full season with the Generals. Ricky played 95 games for the Generals recording 21 goals, 28 assists and 49 points to go along with 136 PIM’s. Ricky plays a hard nosed game and as an Assistant Captain helped lead by example by playing hard and effectively in all 3 zones at all times. Ricky put up 13 goals this season and a staggering 7 of them were GWG’s.
“I am very proud of Ricky and him receiving this honor. He personifies what it means to be a leader and what it means to be a General. He gives 100% at every practice, every workout, every game, just at everything he does. He is so hard to play against. Just a beast all over the ice. But he is also an amazing young man. Just a great kid that is always happy. People outside of the organization have no idea how much Ricky went through this year battling injuries. He missed very few games where other players would have sat months. He needed a lot of time to get physically ready to play. But the amazing part was once the puck was dropped we never worried about minute limits or anything. We just played him in all situations. Power Play he was great, Penalty Kill great, 5 on 5 great. Just a gamer. And obviously he scored huge goals. But he also won big faceoffs and had huge blocks. A complete 200 foot player that I am so proud to have had the chance to Coach and grow from. I can’t wait to watch his journey at the next level.” Erikson said.
