The Northeast Generals are proud to announce that Stephen Fabiano has secured his collegiate commitment to play hockey at Tufts University and join the Jumbos Men’s Hockey program for the 2026-27 campaign.
The local Charlestown, MA product and 2006-born defenseman, who is in the midst of his rookie year in the NAHL, will head to Tufts a year in advance of his graduating season.
Fabiano was drafted by the Generals 243rd overall in the 2025 NAHL Entry Draft and has well exceeded expectations out of that draft slot. Making the team out of training camp, Fabiano has been a mainstay on the Generals’ blue line, playing 55 of the 59 regular-season games while picking up 17 points (6g-11a) and 129 penalty minutes, which are second most on the team.
“Tufts University is getting a great player and person in Stephen. After a really productive prep career, Stephen found a home in our top-6 D-core immediately. He hits like a truck, can fire the puck, and loves to jump into the play. He is a 200-foot D-man who is great in all situations. Stephen has improved all year, and I think he will have a smooth transition to the college game. A relentless worker who loves the game, and it shows when you watch him. We’re really looking forward to watching Stephen play right down the road,” said Head Coach and GM, Bryan Erikson.
Fabiano’s 17 points rank third on the Generals in defensive scoring, and at just 19 years of age, he will be one of the youngest players on Tufts roster next season.
“I’m very excited to be able to attend Tufts next year and compete in the NESCAC against such great competition. The decision wasn’t easy, especially going a year early, but it came down to pushing myself both academically and athletically. Tufts felt like the perfect fit, and being only 10 minutes from home makes it even more special. I’m grateful for the opportunity to be part of such a strong program and school,” said Fabiano.
Tufts University is located in Medford, MA, and competes in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) of NCAA DIV III
The Northeast Generals organization would like to congratulate Stephen and his family on his accomplishment.
