2002 smooth skating Finnish defenseman Severi Sulonen has tendered with the Northeast Generals for the 2021-22 season. The 6’2″ left shot D man has put up points everywhere he has gone. In 2019-20 Severi, playing for Rothesay Netherwood School, played 61 games scoring 13 goals while adding 24 assists for 37 points. Severi is scheduled to play for the Gunnery School after finishing up a great season with the prestigious Rochester Coalition.
“Severi is a talented defenseman that moves really well through the ice for a tall left hander. I noticed how well he’s done for Coach Kyle Quick of the Rochester Coalition 18U team this season and I’m very excited for what he can offer as a Northeast General in the near future. His experience growing up in Finland has prepared him to incorporate fine puck handling skills in his game which will help him be noteworthy in the North American Hockey League.” said Asst. GM Cody Gonyeau.
Kyle Quick of the Rochester Coalition added “Severi has been a great two way defenseman for Roco this fall. He is very steady, patient and reliable and has been huge for us. He contributes on both sides of the puck for us and continues to show growth every weekend. His upside is off the charts and he will be a great asset for the Northeast Generals.”
Head Coach Bryan Erikson is also excited about Severi joining the organization. “His growth as a player has been awesome. Big kid that has improved his edges and developed into a weapon offensively as well as defensively. We except Severi to be a huge addition to our blueline next season.”
