Powerplay Lifts Generals to First Win of the Year, Drop Maine 4-1

Sep 10, 2022

September 10, 2022 (Lewiston, Maine) – The Northeast Generals hit the ice at the Colisée in search of their first win of the new year on Saturday night. Sixten Jennersjö found the back of the net twice on the powerplay helping his team to a 4-1 win over the Nordiques.

Captain Joe Schubert opened the scoring for the Generals with a 5-on-3 powerplay goal at the 13:38 mark of the opening frame. Jennersjö entered the offensive zone on the right side and fed Dave Andreychuck in the slot. Quickly the St. Lawrence commit slid the puck to Schubert at the back door who found the back of the net from the tough angle.

The second period was home to both of Jennersjö’s powerplay goals at 4:48 and 18:57. Douglas Friberg took a shot from the middle of the blue line that was blocked in front but found the stick of Ryan Schelling at the side of the net. Without hesitation Schelling passed the puck across the front of the crease the Jennersjö to extend the lead to 2-0. Later in the period the Gens found themselves with an offensive zone faceoff. Andreychuck won it back to fellow captain Jackson McCarthy who gave it right to the hot stick of Jennersjö. The LIU commit quickly turned in the middle of the slot and fired a shot over the glove of Thomas Heaney for his third powerplay goal of the weekend.

Trailing by three after the second intermission the Nordiques got one back 4:02 into the third when Sterling Wolters banked one off the skate of the Generals netminder and into the back of the net while shorthanded.

With 10 seconds to go and killing a penalty Nick Ramm cleared the defensive zone by dumping the puck the length of the ice and onto the empty net for his second goal of the season and icing the game 4-1.

Toby Hopp (1-0) earned his first career win in his NAHL debut by making 25 saves on 26 shots. Heaney (1-1) allowed 3 goals on 26 shots in the losing effort.

Next up for the generals is a trip to Minnesota for the 2022 NAHL Showcase. The Gens take on the Austin Bruins on Wednesday September 14th to open up showcase play. Puck drop is scheduled for 11:30 am CDT at the Super Rink in Blaine Minnesota.
