The Northeast Generals put together their best game of the year on Sunday with a 6-2 win over the Jamestown Rebels in the rubber match of the 3 game series.
The Rebels would strike first on a Hubbarde backhand snipe midway through period 1 on a Generals turnover. But late in period 1 Mich Heneghan would complete step 1 of what would be a Gordie Howe Hat Trick as he scored off a set faceoff play on a great pass from Gerard Marretta and Cam Gaudette. The teams would be tied 1-1 after 1 with the Generals holding a 11-7 advantage in shots.
The second period would be all Generals as they were able to score 3 goals in the middle frame. The scoring was started by Liam McCanney (2) (Heneghan would add his assist for step 2 of the Gordie Howe Hat Trick) and continued with goals by Ricky Boysen (1) and Joe Mancuso (2). The Generals would lead 4-1 after 2 while outshooting the Rebels 17-6 in the 2nd.
Just 9 seconds into period 3 Gerard Marretta would score his 3rd goal of the season and first 5 on 5 goal to make it 5-1 Generals. 11 seconds later Heneghan would drop the gloves and handle himself well to complete the hat trick.
The Rebels would score on a PP with under 7 minutes to go to make it 5-2. However the Generals would answer on a beauty from Charlie Reid who capped off a 1 goal and 2 assist game.
The win improved the Generals record to 4-5 on the season with division leading New Jersey coming to town on Friday.
