The Northeast Generals, fresh off their holiday break, returned to action this past weekend as they traveled south to take on the Maryland Black Bears. The two teams met back in November for a three game set, with the Generals taking 2 out of 3 games.
Game one saw Jonathan Young make his debut for the Northeast Generals. Young, who was a member of the Black Bears earlier this year, was sent to the Generals as part of a three-way trade that saw the Generals ship center Trevor Smith to Green Bay of the USHL. Young would make his impact felt immediately, as he tallied his first goal in the second period, tying things up at 1-1. Unfortunately for the Generals, it would be all of the offense they would find as they fell 4-1. Garrett Szydlowsky scored twice for the Black Bears while Andrew Remer and Thomas Jarman contributed with two assists each. Mick Heneghan also collected his team-leading 23rd point for the Generals. Joey Stanizzi took the loss in his return from injury.
Matt Pasquale was given starting goaltending duties for game 2 on Saturday night as the Generals took to the ice. Like the previous night, it would be Maryland striking first, courtesy of a goal by Hampus Rydqvist. Cam Gaudette responded with his 6th goal of the season, tying the game at 1. Both teams would exchange goals in the second and third periods before heading to overtime for the second time this season. In overtime, it was Liam McCanney capping off the action as his breakaway goal sealed the deal for the Generals, who won 4-3. Also scoring for the Generals were Jack Ring (3) and Ricky Boysen (5).

Jonathan Young made his debut this weekend for the Generals, notching a goal and 2 assists. Young already qualifies for second in team scoring behind defenseman Mick Heneghan.
Liam McCanney’s overtime winner was his 10th goal of the season in 31 games this season, after scoring only 4 goals in 55 contests last season.
Since joining the Generals, goaltender Matt Pasquale has gone 2-1 with a 4.25 GAA.
Forward Brady Hunter played his first two games for the Generals since being acquired over the holiday break, but did not register a point.
