Generals Split Weekend Series in Jamestown

Nov 18, 2019

The Northeast Generals returned home to Attleboro on Sunday after having earned a split in a two game weekend series with the East Division rival Jamestown Rebels. Despite the Rebel’s last-place standings, the team had given Northeast fits in their previous matchups and this weekend was no different.

Game one of the weekend saw the Rebels welcome the Generals to New York by taking a 4-2 decision. Rebels’ winger Eric Olsen notched a goal and an assist in the game, including the go-ahead goal roughly halfway through the second period as Jamestown would take a 4-2 decision. Liam McCanney (6) and Ethan Destefani (8) tallied goals for the Generals, who fell to 2-2 on the season against the Rebels. Joey Stanizzi made 30 stops in the defeat.

Stanizzi was back in net for game two at Northwest Arena with the Generals looking to earn a split in their most recent weekend effort. The Northeast backstop was able to hold down the fort during the first two periods against Jamestown, which allowed Northeast to jump out to a 2-0 lead thanks to tallies by Joe Mancuso (8) and and Clark Kerner (3). Two quick third period goals by Jamestown evened things up, but Mancuso would find the back of the net with under two minutes remaining for his team-leading 9th goal of the year – the eventual game winner.. Captain Joe Nagle secured the win with an empty-netter shortly thereafter.

Player Standouts/Stats

Mancuso led the Generals with a 3 point weekend – He and Ethan Destefani are currently tied for the lead in points this season for Northeast.

Stanizzi’s record on the season currently sits at 7-9-1-1, with a 2.97 GAA and .908 save percentage.

Joey LaRossa had a strong showing on Saturday night, notching an assist in his return to the lineup for game 2.
