September 17, 2022 (Blaine, Minn.) – The 2022 NAHL showcase wasn’t the greatest show on ice for the Generals as Northeast went 0-4 in showcase play. Despite the scores against there was plenty to like for the Generals over the week in Minnesota including the return of forward Paul Minnehan from the USHL.
The week started with a 3-1 loss at the hands of the Austin Bruins on day one. Douglas Friberg found the back of the net for the first time this season, while starting goalie Cullen DeYoung stopped 30 of 33 shots for a .909 save percentage.
Day two brought a matchup with the Minnesota Wilderness. With a little more scoring on both sides the Generals were upended by the Midwest Division team 7-3. In Minnehan’s first action of the new year the Arizona State commit got his name on the score sheet twice with a goal and an assist. Providence commit Ryan Schelling also recorded a multi-point night with a goal and assist while Air Force commit Joe Schubert found the back of the net as well.
A game against the Chippewa Steel came on day three in which the Generals fell 5-1. Minnehan opened the scoring with the only goal in the first period between the two teams, but 39 shots onto DeYoung lifted the Steel past Northeast.
Finally, Day four and one of the toughest opponents of the showcase came as the Generals took on the Oklahoma Warriors. Jared Scott scored the Gens lone goal with assists from Nick Ramm and Jacob Kaminski.
After the showcase in an interview head coach Bryan Erikson was pleased with the ending of the showcase despite the loss. “All I wanted was 60 minutes of effort… We gave 60 full minutes.” When asked about the event as a whole Erikson said “It’s just an unbelievable event. The league does such a tremendous job promoting our guys.”
The Generals return home to the Northeast for the 2022-2023 season home opener when East Division opponent the Johnstown Tomahawks come to Attleboro on Friday September 23rd. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the New England Sports Village.
