Mar 4, 2024

The Generals hosted the Maine Nordiques for the final time this season on Friday, March 1, and Saturday, March 2. The Generals fought early on but were unable to regain in both contests, with the Nordiques getting the sweep 6-2 and 7-3 wins.

Friday saw the Generals get the jump on the Nordiques early, with forward Brandon Spaulding burying his first goal with the Generals six minutes in to make it 1-0. Maine did not stay behind for long though, scoring 12 minutes into the first to make it a 1-1 tie after one. The Nordiques then went to work through the second and third, scoring two in the second and three straight unanswered goals in the third to jump ahead 6-1 before forward Joseph McGraw scored a powerplay goal 17 and a half minutes into the third to make it 6-2. Neither team found the back of the net after McGraw’s goal, leaving the final at 6-2.

Goaltender Toby Hopp, who committed to Air Force Academy on Feb. 29, got the start in net, stopping 28 of the 34 shots he faced.

Game two saw the Generals get the jump once more, with forward Sixten Jennersjo firing a powerplay goal into the back of the net 10 and a half minutes into the game to jump ahead 1-0. Maine responded once more, scoring twice late in the first, before forward Tyler Ramm tied the game at 2-2 with his 11th of the season 17 and a half minutes into the first. The Nordiques however took full advantage of a five minute power play in the second, scoring three times on the man advantage before potting an even strength goal to make it 6-2 by the end of the second. Spaulding scored for the second time on the weekend 14 minutes into the final frame, before the Nordiques responded two minutes later to make it 7-3, which stood as the final.

Hopp received the start for the second night, batting away 32 of the 39 shots he faced in a high volume afternoon. Forward Andrew Delladonna assisted twice while Spaulding recorded an assist to go with his goal to both lead the team in points on the night with two.

The Generals will head back on the road to continue the month of march, starting off with a visit to Hookset to take on the New Hampshire Mountain Kings on Wednesday, March 6, at 6:30 PM EST. The Gens will then travel to Johnstown one final time this regular season to take on the Tomahawks in a weekend series on Friday, March 8, and Saturday, March 9.
