The Generals had Rochester Jr. Americans visit them for the first time this season for a weekend series, falling 4-2 on Friday, Jan. 26 and 5-3 Saturday, Jan. 27.
Game one on Friday saw the Generals find the lead early, thanks to forward Jacob Wilson’s 11th goal of the season to go ahead 1-0 late in the first. The Jr. Americans tied the game late in the second period to make it 1-1, before forward Joseph McGraw scored his 15th goal seven minutes into the third to make it 2-1. Rochester responded with under four minutes remaining in the period to make it 2-2, before finding a late powerplay goal to take their first lead of the game at 3-2. The red, white, and blue squad from New York found the empty netter with five seconds remaining to end the contest at 4-2
Goaltender Toby Hopp got the start in net, batting away 33 of 37 shots in the game in the loss. McGraw and Wilson both assisted on each other’s goals to give them two points on the night as the Texas and California natives continue their hot month of January.
Game two saw Rochester jump ahead right off the start, finding three goals in only 16 minutes of play to go ahead 3-0 after one. The Jr. Americans potted their fourth straight early in the second, before the Generals came roaring back in the second period. Forward Andrew Delladonna started off the offense with a powerplay goal with less than 5 minutes remaining in the period, before forward Ben Campeau ripped a short handed goal to bring the game within two. It was then defenseman Brendan Kimball who brought it to a one goal game, scoring a loose puck with less than a second remaining in the period to make it 4-3 after two periods of play. The Generals fought throughout the third, but were unable to mount the comeback, with Rochester finding the empty netter with less than a minute remaining, finishing the game at 5-3.
Hopp received the start for the second straight night, before being pulled late in the first for goaltender Daniel Antal. Forwards Sixten Jennersjo and Campeau both recorded two point nights.
The Generals are on the road for the majority of the month of February, starting with a road trip to the Maryland Black Bears for the first time on Friday, Feb. 2 and Saturday, Feb. 3, with both games taking place at 7:30 PM EST. The team will then take a quick break for the Top Prospects Tournament, featuring several Generals players, before going back on the road to face New Jersey. Northeast will not return home until the weekend of Feb. 23, when they host the Johnstown Tomahawks.
