Generals drop games 2 and 3 at NAHL Showcase

Sep 30, 2019

After struggling in game 1 of the NAHL showcase the Generals played much better in game 2 vs the Odessa Jackalopes but a Blasko goal in period 1 would be all the Jackalopes needed to turn the Generals away 1-0.

Despite outshooting Odessa 32-26 the Generals couldn’t solve Odessa goalie Zach Stern and wasted a great effort by Joey Stanizzi in net who turned back 25/26 shots.

In the 3rd game of the Showcase the Generals played the Topeka Pilots and fell 5-4.

The Pilots jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 33 seconds in but the Generals showed some fight and and scored 2 first period goals.  The first a 5-3 shorthanded goal by Gerard Marretta (2nd goal and 2nd shorthanded goal of the season).  The second goal a great Power Play goal by Trevor Smith (2).  The first would end with the Generals leading 2-1.

The second period would see the teams exchange goals.  First up was Tyler Cooper with his 3rd goal of the season early in period 2 to give the Generals a 3-1 lead.  Topeka would answer back quickly but the Generals responded with a Joe Mancuso (1) goal for a 4-2 lead before Topeka would respond ending the 2nd with the Generals leading 4-3.

The 3rd period would see the Generals play really well but 2 small breakdowns saw Topeka capitalize and walk away with a 5-4 come from behind victory pushing the Generals record to 1-4 on the season.
