DeYoung Commits to Sacred Heart University

May 11, 2023

The Northeast Generals, proud members of the North American Hockey League, are thrilled to announce that 2 year goaltender Cullen DeYoung. has committed to play NCAA Division 1 hockey at Sacred Heart University!

DeYoung was acquired in a trade during the 2021-22 season and immediately took charge of the crease.  In 2 years with the Generals Cullen accumulated a record of 38-26-3 with a .911 save percentage and a 3.08 goals against average.  He pushed the limits of the Generals record books in several categories.

General Manager Matt Dibble said “I am really proud of Cullen. He came here like many other generals…not having the success he was hoping for other places. From the day Cullen got here, he worked hard every day to be the goalie he believed he could be. Steve and Bryan worked with him everyday and he took all the coaching. I am happy that SHU and their staff decided to move forward with Cullen. Congrats to Cullen and his family.”

Added Head Coach Bryan Erikson “Cullen is everything you want in a goalie.  He is talented but his work ethic is amazing.  We had a great goalie room this year with Cullen and Toby Hopp and they pushed each other to be better each and everyday.  Cullen has absolutely no quit in him and it shows in how he plays.  He never thinks there is a shot he shouldn’t save.  That compete level will serve him well at the next level.  We are very excited for Cullen on this next step in his journey.”
