October 4, 2022 (Attleboro, Mass.) – Only one game was on the slate for the NAHL Tuesday afternoon as the Northeast Generals played host to East Division opponent the Danbury Hat Tricks. Andrew DellaDonna put iced the game in the final moments as the Gens picked up their fifth straight win 5-2.
With the win Northeast moves to 6-5 this season and continue their strong play against division opponents with a 6-1 East Division record. Danbury meanwhile falls to the bottom of the standings with a 1-8 record.
After a scoreless first period Dave Andreychuk put the Generals on the board first 1:01 into the second frame. Ryan Schelling held the puck on the near side wall of the neutral zone and tapped it ahead to Paul Minnehan to carry it over the blue line and into the offensive zone. Andreychuk cut towards the back door post, got a pass in the slot, and ripped a shot past the Danbury netminder to give the Gens the 1-0 lead.
Danbury scored twice in the late stages of the period to carry a 2-1 lead into the second intermission. First, at 16:35 Robert Hyde walked his way through the Generals defense and in on goal for his second of the season. With no time left on the clock Logan Furstenau gloved down the puck in front of the net and chipped it in for the lead.
The Third period belonged to the Generals with the home team scoring four times in the 20 minutes for the 5-2 win. Nick Ramm started the party by carrying the puck into the offensive end and throwing a shot towards the net that beat the Danbury netminder at 3:43. Two minutes later at 5:48 Jared Scott scored his fifth of the season while on a breakaway. Jake LaRusso sprung Scott with an area pass to the other end of the ice which Scott drove towards the net and between the goalie’s legs.
Late in the period at 16:45 Joey McGraw found the back of the net by batting a rebound out of the air for his second goal of the campaign. Andrew DellaDonna put the icing on the game scoring his first career goal and his second point of the game with an empty netter as time expired.
Cullen DeYoung earned the win in the crease for the Generals stopping 23 of 25 shots against him improving his season record to 4-3-0. On the other side of the ice Adam Johnson earns the loss bringing his record to 1-5 while making 38 saves on 42 shots in the process.
Next up for the Generals is a road trip to Sewell, NJ for a weekend series against the Philadelphia Rebels. Puck drop is scheduled for 8 p.m. on Friday, and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Hollydell Ice Arena.
