The wait is over! The Northeast Generals NAHL defenseman, Mick Heneghan, has made his college decision. The Generals leading scorer will suit up for the Chargers of Alabama-Huntsville in 2020-21.
Heneghan led the Northeast Generals in scoring during the 2019-2020 season, scoring 3 goals and adding 34 assists for 37 points in just 48 games played. His 37 points not only led the team but set a franchise record for defensemen scoring in a season. He was also 4th in the NAHL in Defensive scoring and 1st in assists by a defenseman while being 12th in assists in the entire NAHL.
The Niles, IL native joined the Generals after series of stops in his junior career. He found his home in Attleboro manning the point on the Power Play and logging 25 plus minutes per night while also throwing in the occasional fight.
“Loved coaching Mick. Just a great kid that was always ready to play. His teammates love him as he battles so hard. An absolute gamer that will make any team better with his compete and talent level.” Said Generals Coach/GM Bryan Erikson.
“We had liked Mick for a few years. Loved the bite in his game that went along with his great skating and offensive ability. But what really stood out to me was how much he improved his defensive play. We knew he was going to be a weapon in transition but his angles were so great and he really became a great shut down defender for us. This is a kid that has never been given anything and has clawed his way to the Division 1 level. I couldn’t be more proud of him for reaching his goal. I can’t wait to see how Coach West at Alabama uses him. Coach West has been so great to deal with as one of our former goalies is there (David Fessenden) and I am really excited about the direction of the program.”
