Generals Name First Winners of the Richard “Harvey” Jackson Man Of The Year Award

Apr 19, 2020

The Northeast Generals are excited to start a yearly tradition where we recognize players from both the NAHL and NA3HL teams with awards.

The first award is named the Richard “Harvey” Jackson Man of the Year Award.  This award is presented to the young man on each team that best personified the character of Harvey.  Harvey was dedicated to all things Generals and always opened his heart up to everyone around him.  He believed in always seeing the best in everyone and making sure he brought happiness to each person he came into contact with.  This award is presented in that spirit.

The winner of the Harvey Man of the Year Award on the NA3HL team is two year player and one of Harvey’s favorite Billets of all time.  That young man in Tami Merilainen.  Tami came to the Generals from Finland and immediately found a home not only within the Generals organization but also as a member of Harvey’s billet house.

Tami’s infectious smile and laugh was always an uplifting sight for his teammates.  He would have been Harvey’s pick to win this award.

The winner of the Harvey Man of the Year Award on the NAHL team is Assistant Captain Gerard Marretta.  Gerry is also the full embodiment of this award.  Gerry is one of the kindest people the Generals organization has ever had.  He is always welcoming to every person he meets and quick with a smile and an introduction.  His dedication to the Generals on and off the ice and in the community has been nothing short of amazing.  Gerry is a great young man that has paved the way for future Generals on how to be a great teammate.

“Both Tami and Gerry are amazing young men.  They both fully embody what Harvey loved.  He would be so proud of both of them for winning this award.  Harvey was a great man who’s love of the Generals will be felt for years to come.  The same can be said of the impact of both Tami and Gerry.  We are lucky to continually get such great young men in our organization.  We look forward to the continued impact of Tami and Gerry at their next destinations and as proud alumni of the Northeast Generals.”  Said Bryan Erikson.
